Gotein review and GIVEAWAY!

I have to be really honest here.

I am a picky eater.  I don’t like a lot of foods.  And honestly, I don’t like the taste of Gotein.

I wanted to like this so bad!  I can’t have soy protein, so I was stoked to find out this convenient whey protein was arriving at my house as I was starting my weight loss plan.  I think it’s a great idea and for people who are less finicky than me, it’s might be pretty good!

Yes, I got it 6 or 7 weeks ago, and yes, I have been putting this off because I didn’t like it.  I have a problem with being negative.

So, Gotein.

According to the company:

Gotein™ Protein to Go!
Perfect for individuals with a hectic schedule looking for a nutritious high protein shake to go. Whether you’re a Weight Loss Surgery patient with a strict diet, an active executive or a sports minded person that needs to perform at their peak, Gotein™ helps refuel the body and improves lean muscle mass while burning fat with our premium protein matrix.*

Gotein comes in a packet like so:

I was reading papers at work when I wanted to get my snack on. My desk is a hot mess.

The packet is nice because I can grab one pre-measured serving and throw it in my bag.  Less nice was having a packet leak all over my bag.  The other thing with the packet is that it is a little too wide and I ended up dumping protein powder all over.  Scissors made it better, but I don’t always have access to scissors.

Chocolate in my Blender cup that the puggles have since eaten.

I tried chocolate first.  It was ok.  I would drink it, but probably not for what it costs.  Part of the problem was that it was kind of watery.  I may have added too much water, which other bloggers have said is a problem.  Also, this probably would have tasted better cold, but I only had access to lukewarm tap water.

Moving on, the big thing Gotein markets is that there is no chalky aftertaste.  I thought it had a slight chalky feeling after I drank it, but certainly not as bad as most other whey protein powders.  I think it is probably impossible to have a protein powder that isn’t a little chalky, but that’s just a guess.

Vanilla. I was reviewing a textbook while drinking this. I found out today my review will be published in October!

I tried vanilla next.  It was not as good as chocolate.  I think this would definitely benefit the most from being cold, but I only had the water bottle in my desk drawer.  I definitely did a lot better on the water ratio, though.

Finally, I tried strawberry.  I did not like it.  It had a weird almost minty taste and I kind of forced it down.  To be fair, I’m not a huge fan of artificial strawberry (except Starbursts, of course), so it may not be the drink’s fault.

Ok, so you suffered through the review.  I have an envelope from Gotein containing one of each flavor for a lucky winner to sample!  I know I didn’t love this stuff, but most bloggers seemed to like it, so maybe you will like it too (I only linked to positive reviews, but if you Google “Gotein Review” you’ll find a lot of reviews all over the map).

Well, now I totally want to try some, lol. If I won some, I’d be smart and mix it with cold whole milk because that’s how I roll. I don’t take any supplements now, protein or otherwise. I’m a cheap bastard.

  2. Kara says:

I already stalk you, I mean follow you on the Twitter.

  3. Kara says:

I tweeted about this giveaway and your silly blog really doesn’t like when I comment a lot.

  4. Megan says:

Strangest place? I don’t know….a hospital? I volunteer there so this would be good for the long hour shifts! Great giveaway!

  5. You’ve gotta mix it with less than the recommended amount of water. It tastes a billion times better.

The strangest place I’ve taken protein isn’t really weird so much as awkward. I bring tons on the plane with me when I travel for work, so I can have it on my trip.

  6. Strangest Place I will take gotein….uhm to Iowa State YoYo competition. That’s right, my husband and his best friend at competitive yoyoers and the Iowa comp is in a month and we have to road trip in one day.

  7. Abby says:

I love giveaways, so I wish I liked protein powders and shakes!

  8. I would take my protein with me to yoga class 🙂

I think the strangest place I’d plan on taking my protein to is on an airplane ride to seattle!

Hmm, strange places to take my protein. I can’t really think of anywhere strange that I would take it – that “strangest” place might be my car. I don’t go many strange places I don’t think. If I already follow you on twitter does that count?

  13. I’ll take it with me to work because I am ALWAYS there!

  14. I added your giveaway to my blog sidebar.

  15. I would take my protein to work – I know, I love on the edge.

  16. Mandy says:

I’m happy to read this review – because I am also a picky eater…. 😀

  17. I’ll probably take some to work, but that’s not very strange. It looks handy to keep in my dog training bag so I’ll probably end up popping one at a dog show when I forget a snack (as usual) and have a long day with the pup!

i would probably need it before grocery shopping or body pump – you know, the 2 most strenuous parts of my very tame life. or perhaps i’d keep it in my bed and eat it when i wake up at 2am every freaking night. that could be fun!
